Decadence

A friend turned up at my flat on Saturday with this little beasty, picked up from F. C. Soper in Nunhead. I was beside myself with excitement.

A quick split down the middle, a few bashes with a spanner (I had nothing else), and several minutes spraying myself with lobster viscera later...

With some freshly baked bread, butter, truffle mayonnaise, and a wodge of lemon made for a perfect dinner.

YUMMERS! I can't remember the last time I ate a lobster. Been meaning to get to Soper's for ages too.

Nice! They often sell them at the Codfather's in Deptford too, steaming hot freshly cooked.

Blimey that's a big 'un. Did your friend walk it in on a leash or was the lobster already cooked?

Gorgeous! I saw some ready cooked lobsters (and crayfish!) the other day at the South Ken farmers' market and am now tempted...

Delicious! Last time I cooked one, it was on a camp stove and it was really hard to get the water boiling. I still worry I gave it a slow, agonising death. It tasted good though.

It's grey, cold and rainy and yet all I want to eat is that lobster!

What a perfect dinner. His claws look very meaty.

I like your friend! Now that my parents are here in London for the month, I hope my dad will make me lobster with ginger and spring onion...

We're having a lobster night with some friends soon and I can't wait. They have lots of interesting things planned but I'm going to push for some cooked simply like this too, looks great.

Helen - Yes, I've been meaning to get there too. Apparently they have a very impressive selection.

Deptford Dame - thanks for your comment. I've never been to Codfathers (what a great name!) but will make a point to do so this weekend.

FU - Ha! It was already cooked when he brought it round.

Su-Lin - I highly recommend it. Such a wonderfully simple dinner.

Mathilde - I always crave seafood too, it was a welcome treat.

Caitlin - oh no! poor thing. Still...delicious...

Ben - We have some gems around us, don't we? I must make more effort.

LexEat - the shells were boiled up to make a lovely fragrant lobster stock; perfect for this autumnal weather.

Ollie - they were... I managed to extract them whole.

Helen YLP - Oooh sounds delicious!

Ginger - I think simple is best with treats like these, to let the real flavours shine through.

Colehill - Yes, my friends are definitely keepers :)

Fastest Indian - I should have found out where it was from really, it was a beast!

Mmm. Lobster. That's what I'm going to try and have for dinner in Manchester tonight.
